F

amily owned and operated, Tucson Stoneworks has been in business since

2012, at first offering custom-made countertops and other stone products.

A year ago, brothers-in-lawBarclay Brown andDustin Rast acquired Tucson

Cabinets, whose owners were retiring. With a 10-year history, it seemed to be

a perfect matchup for their existing business. Brown hasmore than 13 years of

experience in newhome construction and real estate, while Rast has 10+ years

designing, fabricating and installing granite and other stone countertops.

The two entrepreneurs state that for both kitchen and bath remodels and newbuilds,

they perform the fabrication and installation of the countertops, and offer three lines

of cabinetry: Mid-Continent, UltraCraft and StarMark. This enables their customers

to have “one-stop shopping,” rather than going back and forth between stone

fabricators and cabinetmakers. Tucson Stoneworks’ designers can take the clients’

objective and budget for a project and create a customized plan tomeet their needs.

Tips and Trends

• Newcolors such as white and gray cabinets are popular.

• More customers aremixing different top and bottomcabinet colors and styles.

• The Carraramarble look has been a huge hit, but thematerial itself can be high-

maintenance. Look-alike quartz products, however, are far more durable.

• Digital templating the customer’s countertop enables the fabrication process to be

completely automated. For customers who are only getting newcountertops, they

can have virtually no downtimewithout countertops and a kitchen sink.

• When choosing between countertopmaterials, it’s crucial to have seasoned

professionals on hand to explain the pros and cons of all choices.
